4. Publication Ethics, Complaints, and Appeals

Concerns relating to publication ethics, authorship, plagiarism, data integrity, image manipulation, peer-review conduct, conflicts of interest, participant privacy, copyright, generative AI use, or another matter affecting the scholarly record should be reported confidentially.

  • the relevant page, section, figure, table, or reference;
  • supporting documents, records, or links; and

Anonymous concerns may be considered when they contain specific and verifiable evidence. All allegations are assessed fairly and confidentially. A person raising a concern in good faith should not contact authors, reviewers, institutions, or research participants directly on behalf of the journal.

An appeal should explain the material factual error, procedural failure, reviewer conflict, overlooked evidence, or serious misunderstanding that allegedly affected the decision. An appeal should not consist only of disagreement with the editor or reviewers.
